Shanahan Watch Starts In Dallas…

Could Mike Shanahan replace Wade Phillips as head coach of another team? Seems the rumor mills are starting to turn about a possible Shanahan hiring by Jerry Jones. With Jason Garrett drawing head coaching interest from teams like the Broncos and Detriot, Jones could be forced to make some coaching changes this off season. Hiring Shanahan or Cowher (which would never happen) could give him his off season splash Jones loves to make. With no first round draft picks for the up coming draft in April, and a tight salary cap, Jones is low on *big news* options this off season.

I do find myself curious about how Shanahan would do as the Cowboys head coach. Could he restore some sort of order to the locker room? How would he handle T.O. should Jerry Jones decide to bring back his diva wide receiver. Could Shanahan help mold Tony Romo into an elite quarterback? I guess the watch begins to see which way Jerry Jones decides to go this off season, and if Jones will stay committed to Wade Phillips if there is a better option on the table.

There are alot of things fans are asked to accept during the course of their sports lives. We are asked to accept our favorite player being traded, or being allowed to enter free agency. We are asked to accept the fact that our favorite teams is in a rebuilding phase. This basically allows your favorite team to suck, because they asked you to understand before the season actually starts. We are even asked to pay more money to see our favorite teams in action. Its expected that because were fans, we will pay the extra money to help pay for new stadiums. We are asked to put up with alot from our favorite teams, and players. Some fans put up with more from their favorite teams then they do their loved ones.

I have already established my point of view about athletes being role models, my opinion has not changed since that post was written. Cowboy fans were asked to accept the fact that our team had the living crap kicked out of them yesterday, and would not be making a trip to the playoffs. Ok, it hurt but most of us can handle that. What I can not accept are some of the comments Tony Romo made in his post game press conference.

“I wake up tomorrow and keep living,” Romo said. “You just keep playing the game. It’s a fun game, it’s enjoyable. We’re going to try to win next year. We’re going to try to get back in the playoffs, and we’re going to try to win the Super Bowl.

“That’s all you can do.”

He would later go on to say basically *If we win ok, if we don’t ok* Now I understand Romo just took a massive beating on the field, I also understand that he collapsed in the shower (due to a rib injury) prior to his press conference. I took that as a complete give up statement. I also looked at it like *Hey I still got my game check, I make MILLIONS of dollars, so eh its ok were not making a run into the playoffs*. Prior to these comments I never once questioned Tony Romo’s desire to win, or his heart. I seriously have questions about him moving foward as this teams leader now. Not because of his ability to turn the ball over at just the right time, but because I didn’t see any signs this season that his turnovers bothered him. Nothing seems to bother Romo now that he got his massive contract from Jerry Jones. I would like to hope that Tony Romo spends this offseason realizing that his first priority during the season is football. Its not Jessica Simpson, or having his name and picture in all the magazines. Yes Troy Aikman dated some high profile woman in his time with the Cowboys, but he kept it low profile. He also kept his head focused on football during the season.

Sense Of Entitelment…

An open letter to the Dallas Cowboys,

Is this the best you have to offer your fans? Was having the Hard Knocks cameras in training camp worth it? As a fan I have several questions for your organization. First and foremost where does your *sense of entitlement* come from? You as an organization have done nothing for more then a decade. How do your put all your hopes and dreams on the shoulders of a quarterback who has proven he is merely a top ten quarterback in this league on paper only.

How your organization came into this season with Superbowl hopes is beyond me. Jerry Jones has managed to put together a roster of divas, cry babies, and players with little to no heart. Your organization is more interested in having your team in the tabloids rather then doing your talking on the football field. Your team deserves the massive beatdown your taking in Philadelphia right now. I will thank you in advance for not making excuses to why you finished your season 9-7. Please do not tell us that we would have fulfilled our hopes and dreams had we been able to keep players like Felix Jones, and Marion Barber healthy. Please don’t blame Romo’s pinky on your horrible play while he was injured. Please address your back up quarterback issues in the offseason, instead of putting all your faith in the fact that Romo will be healthy week in and week out.

Please make adjustments to your wide receiver core, first and foremost please cut Terrell Owens. I know this will be hard for you Jerry Jones, because you love to have the Cowboys names in everyone’s mouth regardless if its good or bad. How an offensive coordinator goes from a genius to someone who can’t manage to put together a decent game plan week in and week out is beyond me. If Jason Garrett is our head coach in waiting, this truly scares me. Garrents only responsibility right now is managing the offense. I can think of 31 other teams in the NFL that would love to have his problem of having that many *alleged superstars*. If Garrett can’t handle the offensive side of the ball, how is to be expected to be the head coach, responsible for a 53 man roster.

Poor game planning and execution are just a few problems on the list of several things wrong with your organization. I would like to take this time to thank the following players playing with heart, despite the drama that has surround this organization pretty much all season.

The entire defense. (Despite the fact that your guys played horrible at times this season, you never turned on eachother, and started throwing eachother under the bus to the media.

I would like to take the time to also thank Jerry Jones for applying the Al Davis philosophy to the Dallas Cowboys. You have successfully signed players to long term big money deals, and have gotten very little in return. Examples of this would be Terrence Newman, and Marion Barber. Your philosophy of low risk, big reward troubled players have also brought in Pacman Jones and Tank Johnson. Neither have cost you very much, and neither have done very much. I truly hope your new stadium works out for you. If this is the best product you have to put out on the field each and ever week, good luck selling it out.

In closing I would like to leave you, Jerry Jones with this. Please take the single biggest sign of arrogance by a franchise in the history of sports *The Americas Team* slogan and SHOVE IT UP YOUR ASS! You just like 90% of the fans in Dallas seem to think because you have Dallas next to your name, that your entitled to something. Dallas fans got spoiled in the 90′s with 3 Superbowls, and a Stanley Cup. As your franchise as proven each and every year since 96, winning a playoff game is not a guaranteed thing! Please do not tell us how great your team is in the offseason, we need to see something! Your word means diddly shit to us anymore.

*PS* If anyone has a problem with the above open letter to the Dallas Cowboys, please go back and review this season. It will help fuel your anger with this organization. If you feel I have been to harsh in my observation of this organization and your waiting for an apology, let me know how waiting works out for you, cause it ain’t happenin. Just like the Cowboys going to the playoffs this season.

I feel a rant coming on at some point over the weekend. I will however say this, Hey Jerry can you please find your sack and stick T.O. on the first thing smoking out of Dallas in the offseason?

Recent comments from Terrell *I run my mouth way to f**king much Owens* include the following..

” I think a lot of people, they see that when I get my hands on the ball things happen. I can’t throw it and catch it. I can do only one thing. It’s not that I can’t play, it’s the system of which I’m in.”

If Dallas’ goal is to get to the Super Bowl, the team “can’t obtain that championship if I’m not involved in the offense.”

All I’m going to say about the latest comments from T.O. crying about not getting the ball is this..

1. The Cowboys won 3 without your cryin ass

2. Jason Garrett goes way to far out of his way to get your cryin involved in the offense. He will force you the ball just to shut you up

3. Hopefully with the addition of Roy Williams, this means your days in a Cowboys uniform are numbered.

If Wade Phillips or Jerry Jones had a pair they would take a page from Marvin Lewis book, and deactivate him for a game.SD

I just had a random thought, on T.O. saying he can’t throw the ball and catch the ball. You have thrown two quarterbacks under the bus with two previous teams. (Jeff Garcia, and Donovan McNabb). Now if I’m not mistaken, wasn’t it T.O. that cried like a little girl after the loss to the Giants last year in the playoffs, because the media was being rough on Tony Romo?

Polamaul Calls Out NFL

Troy Polamalu is calling out the NFL for all the fines being handed out. Claiming the NFL is turning into a flag football leauge, and the fines being handed out are all about the money, and not the saftey of its players.

“When you see guys like Dick Butkus, the Ronnie Lotts, the Jack Tatums, these guys really went after people. Now, they couldn’t survive in this type of game. They wouldn’t have enough money. They’d be paying fines all the time and they’d be suspended for a year after they do it two games in a row. It’s kind of ridiculous.”

Someone should point out to Polamalu that its a different time, and a different game.

Vince Young still backup

After I read this, I just kinda had to laugh. Now I am a huge Young fan, but this was abit out there..

“I’m a great guy, a great humble guy,” Young told MSNBC.com. “I’ve done a whole lot in my career in just three years and for [the media] to do stuff like that to try to make me look bad for some reason — I don’t know why — but they’re just writing my legacy.” HUH? Legacy?? Where??

Oh that’s right you must be referring to your legacy in Austin. 2 Rosebowl wins, 1 National Championship, Perfect season. You could do no wrong in Austin! Because lets face it your last two years in Tennessee

have been horrible. Your brightest moment in the NFL came after you won Offensive Rookie Of The Year. In my opinion Marques Colsten would have won this award that year, if he hadn’t missed 4 games. Now Vince looks like an unstable, mama’s boy who is not ready for the big time. Now I will agree that the Titans have not done alot to get Vince some help on the field, but that is no excuse. Vince has a ton of talent, but has failed to grow into what the Titans hoped he would when they made him the 3rd overall pick in the draft. As a Young fan, I can only hope he figures it out.

Will Romo Play???

At this point who the f**k cares? I am tired of hearing about this. Everyday on the Dallas sports talk, every show has to talk about *Romo fitted for splint*, *Romo throwing passes* *Jerry leaves Romo’s start up to coach*. Yeah now Jerry wants to let Phillips make a decision about something? Brett Favre calls Romo and gives him a pep talk about playing through the injury. ARGH!!! Just make a decision already!!

Phillips is in a no win situation on this one

-Phillips lets Romo start, offensive line stinks, Romo hurt even worse, Cowboys lose

-Phillips starts Johnson, offensive line stinks, Johnson becomes Bledsoe esq statute in pocket, Cowboys lose

-Phillips starts Romo, Romo throws 13 interceptions because his pinkie is fractured and can’t control the ball, Cowboys lose

-Phillips decides to start himself, and throws 5 touchdown, Cowboys win!!!!

Ok so maybe the last one is abit far fetched, but you get the idea. You think there are some Cowboys fans on the ledge now, after loosing to Washington, and Arizona?? Let the Cowboys go to St. Louis and lose. Cowboys fans will be jumping ship faster then passangers on the Titanic!

The Fumbling Wonder…

With Tony Romo as your teams quarterback you get the great plays, and you also get the fumbles. You know the ones where he takes off running and forgets to tuck the ball, only to have the ball stripped from behind! John Garrett needs to quit riding rookie tight end Martellus Bennett’s ass, and teach Romo to run with the ball “High and Tight”!!!! Romo fumbles late in the second quarter, Bengals recover and have a chance to score before the half. Dallas defense holds them to a field goal.

When asked about his quarterback fumbling the ball so much, T.O. replied “I just want Romo to hold on to the ball so I can be more involved”! ” I don’t care much about anything else, other then my quarterback holding onto the ball, so he can throw me the ball 18 times a game”. “Cause I love me, some me”!

Jessica Simpson had this to say about her man and and his fumbling problems. “Hey I was married to the lead singer of a boy band. No matter what Tony does, he is still better for my career then Nick Lachey.” “Oh I mean I love my man no matter what happens on the field”

New to the corner, 4th and Inches.. a weekly look at the NFL. Biggest news of the weekend, the injury of Tom Brady. I like most fantasy football GM’s found themselves wondering if it is time to rebuild for next year with the possible season ending knee injury to Brady in the Patriots season opening win in Kansas City.

I won’t count the Patriots out, well because its the Patriots.. but if Brady is out for the season the AFC just got alot more interesting.(Patriots over Chiefs 17-10)

Patriots fans you have the “spareness” of Chris Simms coming in to workout for your team this morning.

Staying on the East Coast, Brett Favre makes his 4000th start in Jets Green yesterday.

We watched most of this game, and I must say Favre still looks like pretty good. Although playing in a new city, for a new team, and new coach does not stop him from throwing the *Favre Hail Mary*. You know the I’m about to be sacked so I’m gonna throw the ball as high and as far down the field as possible and hope it ends up making a safe landing in a fellow team mates hand. Hey Packer fans, how many games can you remember where Favre threw zero interceptions?? I picked the Jets to win while making my *Ick’s Picks* but I must say when the Dolphins were marching down the field with less then a minute to play in the game, I became a Dolphins fan. Nothing personal Brett, just wanted to see Pennington stick it to the team that dropped him to make roster, and cap room to bring you aboard. (Jets Over Dolphins 20-14)

Vick who?? The new era in Atlanta has begun. High price first round draft pick Matt Ryan made his NFL debut yesterday, and looked like a pro. Ryan’s first pass in the NFL turns into a 62 yard touchdown.

Micheal Turner, long time back up in San Diego also made his Falcons debut. Now when he was signed to a big money contract in the off season, some people including myself wondered why he got so much money. Well yesterday be set the single game rushing team record, going off for 220 yards. Having that kind of ground game will only help a rookie quarterback. (Falcons over Lions big, 34-21)

Once considered one of the best college players, the problems just keep rolling for Vince Young at the pro level. Young has not come close to living up the the expectations the Titans had for him when he was drafted 3rd overall behind Reggie Bush. Brady not the only quarterback suffering an injury yesterday. Young left the game to a shower of boo’s after spraining his ankle.

Young is expected to miss 2-4 weeks, and if the Titans offense is playing better, Young could find himself without a starting job. I have said for a few seasons now that Young has no help.. I might have to finally become a realistic Super10 fan, and realize that Vince may not return to Longhorn glory. (Titans Over Jags 17-10)

The Cowboys head to the Dawg pound to do battle with the Browns. I have to admit I was alittle worried about this game. Watching the Cowboys slice and dice the defense yesterday it was hard to tell if the Cowboys were just that good, or were the Browns just having a bad day on defense. Romo goes off for 300+ yards, late in the third quarter Cowboys fans cringed as 700+ pounds meet Romo in the backfield in the form of a sack, splitting his chin, and leaving him woozy. I will say this Romo showed heart, not only did he stay in the game, he marched the Cowboys down the field for the touchdown. Romo would later take couple of stitches in the chin. Hey Jessica, your honey needs some extra love! Barber would also leave the game with rib injuries, nothing to serious. Felix Jones shows why Jerry Jones took him in the first round. His first NFL rushing attempt resulted in a touchdown. T.O. also tied Chris Carter for 2nd on the all time touchdown reception list with his one and only touchdown of the day. (Cowboys over Browns 28-10)

The Bears defense handed out a dominating performance in last nights win over the Colts. Manning was definitely showing some rust last night. The Bears offense also turned in a nice performance. Orton managed the game nicely, going 13/21 for 150 yards with 1 TD, and 0 interceptions. Brian Urlacher had the line of the day, when asked how he felt about the upset victory over the Colts he replied “It wasn’t an upset, we knew we could win this game”!(Bears over Co lts 29-13)

What a game! That’s about all I can say about the UPSET of the weekend in my opinion. Bushwack was actually at the game, and a die hard Panthers fan. I’m going to let him tell the story of the upset only he thought was possible :smile:

Peyton thinks long and hard, looks God in the eye, and says, ‘I believe in hard work, and in staying true to family and friends. I believe in giving. I was lucky, but I always tried to do right by my fans.’

God can’t help but see the essential goodness of Manning, and offers him a seat to his left.

Then God turns to Tony Romo and says, ‘What do you believe?’

Tony says, ‘I believe passion, discipline, courage and honor are the fundamentals of life. I, too, have been lucky, but win or lose, I’ve always tried to be a true sportsman, both on and off the playing fields.’

God is greatly moved by Tony’s sincere eloquence, and he offers him a seat to his right.

Finally, God turns to Brett Favre: ‘And you, Brett, what do you believe?’

Brett replies, ‘I believe you’re in my seat.”
