Superbowl weekend is an emotional time for all football fans. We are either planning our big party, or find ourselves weighing out our options of which invite we will take. Most of the time this decision is based on who is going to have the best food, best booze, and the best TV. We are also left with a hollow feeling inside because we realize in 3 short hours our lazy Sundays will be gone for 6 months. We men know that our wives or girlfriends are making the honey do lists, and planning out things for us to do, that they know otherwise would not happen during the football season. The football widows get their men back if you will. We football fans spend the 2 weeks leading up to the Superbowl having it over analyzed to the point it makes us sick to our stomachs. The last two weeks have been no different, except this year we have been treated to a heavy dose of Peyton Manning being shoved down our throats. What will the Colts do, and where will land? The Peyton Manning talk has overshadowed the Superbowl.

In 1998 with the first overall pick the Indianapolis Colts selected Peyton Manning, over Ryan Leaf. Fans boo’ed and mocked this decision. The same fans would later get to enjoy 12 years of 10 win seasons, multiple trips to the playoffs, and a Superbowl win over the Chicago Bears. This year some ugly truths were realized in Colt country. The Colts realized that Peyton Manning sweeps a lot of problems under the rug. Truth be told without taking one snap this season, Peyton Manning should win another Most Valuable Player award. Lets face it without Peyton Manning under center, the Colts are beyond horrible. The Colts find themselves for the first time in many years, lost and confused on which direction they should go. Several key pieces of the puzzle are now free agents. Staples of their franchise like Jeff Saturday, Reggie Wayne, Gary Bracket, and several others. Resigning and cutting free agents happens every off season, but how far do you think $28 million dollars would go? With March 8th rapidly approaching the Colts have to figure out if they are going to pay Manning a $28 million dollar roster bonus, or out right release him. No Colt fan wants to see number 18 in another jersey next year, but I think they want to see another 2-14 season even less.

I know the idea of the Colts releasing Manning sends some Colts fans into a corner to assume the fetal position, where they will slowly rock back and forth until someone talks them into coming out. Manning has been the face of the Colts franchise, and will walk into Canton 5 years after he leaves the game. Colts fans have become spoiled on division titles, and playoff appearances. While Colts fans have had Manning under center for the last 13 years, other franchises around the league have gone through as many as 7 starting quarterbacks. See the Washington Redskins, and Oakland Raiders as examples. Sure Manning could restructure his deal to free up some cap room. This could be a 2-3 year band-aid at best. The Colts jumped feet first into the Andrew Luck sweepstakes, now its time for them to claim their prize. No one knows for sure if Andrew Luck is going to be the new face of the franchise. He certainly has all the attributes, but no one really knows for sure. I have read articles where fans have said if the Colts trade, or release Peyton Manning they are going to give up their season tickets. Guess what, someone else will be there to buy them. I have also heard some fans say they will follow Manning to which ever team he goes to, they will be back. Fans act like hormonal women most of the time, and often say some of the dumbest things. We often put our blinders on to reality, and rarely can see past the tip of our own noses when it comes to our teams.

If the Packers can tell Brett Favre to hit the bricks, then the Colts can most certainly part ways with Peyton Manning. After all let us not forget that football is no longer a sport, its a business. Cutting Manning would be strictly a business decision, and a very wise one at that. Collect your prize from the lottery, spread that $28 million dollar signing bonus around, and rebuild the team.

Training at the NFL’s Cowboys stadium was delayed nearly two hours this morning, after a player reported finding an unknown white powdery substance on the ground.

Initially the NFL team thought it was a prank. Training was immediately suspended, while police and Homeland Security officials were called to investigate.

After a complete analysis, Dallas Police forensic experts determined that the white substance, unfamiliar to most of the players, was in fact, the goal line.

Practice will resume this afternoon after Police and Homeland Security decided the team was unlikely to encounter the substance again.

Oh where to start with the sad, sad team in Arlington Texas. Liverdamage wrote a post earlier that was pretty funny, but I would like to comment and add some things to it

Below are parts of Liverdamage’s post and my comments…

Right now you’re saying “Rob, you’re full of shit.” Oh but not true… lets look at the difference in my daily life when the Cowboys are good vs when the Cowboys are terribad.

When Good:

Guy I don’t want to talk to: “How bout that Romo… and he’s dating Jessica Simpson!! Why don’t they just run the plays that score touchdowns instead of running the ball?”

Richie: “I hate the Cowboys.”

Jason: “I’m getting so much hate for being a Cowboys fan”

(Jason) I get so much hate for being a cowboys fan down here win or lose. If we are winning, the hate is easier to bear because I can ramble off something about our record, or how were playing and the haters cap the hater-rade and its over. If were losing, then I find myself in the mist of a dogpile, and people keep jumping on me as if were fighting for a loose ball on the field. Apparently the Texans fans are not concerned with their history, only whats going on at the present moment. Which is fine, when you have never had success, you don’t know how to handle it, or yourself.

When Bad:

Guy I don’t want to talk to:

Richie: “The ticket place I work at has 100 extra tickets, want to go to a game and we’ll have a great fucking time at the game?”

Jason: “We’re going to be in good position next year, we’re going to have a #6-#10 draft pick and we can get player x or player y. I really think we can build around player z who has really stepped up. I think Jerry might be shamed enough to get a football guy in here for a head coach. Should they trade player f for draft picks? etc etc”

(Jason) At this point in the season its to early to give you a proper scouting report on the talent at the college level. I don’t get into draft mode until around bowl season, so check back with me then my good man!

I am fully expecting my next conversation with jason to guy like this: “*obligatory jerry rant*. Should we trade Ware for 2 #1 picks? Should we draft Mark Ingram if he’s available? It’s time we see what Stephen McGee has at the pro level. *obligatory coach options for next year, and that potentially meaning going back to a 4-3 and how that’d shape up with our keeper d players*”

(Jason) You will never, never ever here the words *It’s time to see what Stephen McGee has at the pro level* come out of my mouth. He had a hard enough time completing a forward pass in college. Drafting Stephen McGee was not only a feeble attempt at drafting a quarterback for the future, but yet again proves that Jerry Jones should not be allowed in the war room on draft day. Despite the fact he owns the damn room, he should be locked out of it! As far as coaching options for next season, Jerry Jones will NEVER admit that he made a mistake making Jason Garrett the head coach in waiting. On the off chance that Jerry Jones does clean house at the end of the season, then we can talk about possible coaching options.

Should we trade Ware for 2 #1 picks? Really? At this point we already need to hire John Walsh to plaster pictures on Americas Most Wanted to help us find our pass rush, because its missing! If we trade Ware, then we can assume that our pass rush isn’t going to be found, and we can officially start planning its funeral. Besides assuming Ware ever did end up on the trade block, who in the hell would want his contract? Don’t forget Jerry Jones backed the brinks truck up to his door last season, remember? Drafting Mark Ingram, or any other good runningback would be as bad as them being drafted by Oakland. Jason Garrett has no idea what the purpose of a running game is used for. I really think that his play sheet has 800 passing plays, and 2 running plays. A sweep, and the delayed handoff. I think Garrett is afraid of the running game. Perhaps he fears that if he calls a running play, they might actually move the chains, or ever worse get in the endzone!

I can think of 31 other offensive in the league that would love to have Jason Garrett’s problems. A three headed monster in the backfield (when used) 2 solid wide receivers, and a solid tight end. Yet somehow he can’t seem to figure out how to use them properly!

All I have heard this season is how much talent this team has, boy you sure could have fooled me. All I see is a team that continues to shoot themselves in the foot. Stupid penalties, costly turnovers, and zero accountability! I miss the days when Romo would throw and interception or fumble the ball, and Bill Parcells was on the sideline with a ladder ready to climb up in his ass.

Perhaps in a perfect world Jerry would hire someone to build and run his team, and he would just sign the checks and sit in the owners box. Since that day will never happen he should just appoint himself head coach so the team will have officially hit rock bottom. In my perfect world Jerry would blow a gasket at the end of the year and fire the entire coaching staff. He would then turn to Stephen Jones say *F*ck this I’m outta here, you run this sh*t and leave Valley Ranch! Stephen Jones would find himself standing in the door with a sad look on his face with tears welling up in his eyes like a child who is watching their daddy leave him and his mom behind. Then he would wipe the tears from his eyes, man up and hire someone to build and run this team the way it needs to be run!
