2010 assessment done, next up “What to do 2010?”

-Put Stephen McGee in after 2 losses when the season will officially be over. Give him enough practice time to get used running the offense before throwing him to the wolves. He looked pretty damn decent in preseason, if he can’t play, we’re going to need 2 qbs in the offseason.

-After 2 losses, put Romo on Injured Reserve and scout other teams practice squads for 1 player.

-Cut the fat. I don’t even know enough about the players that never see the field to know what ones need to go, but I know there should be at least 4 players cut churn the bottom of the roster and put the fear of god in anyone not pushing to start.

2011 and beyond:

-Cut Barber. Jerry will save enough money by doing this that he can lower the price of beer at the new stadium from 58$ to 54$.

-Keep Roy Williams… weird I know, but he’s been good.

-“Jerry the owner needs to fire Jerry the GM”, couldn’t resist. It wouldn’t be a Cowboys post without those words being typed…

-Fire Wade. Then Fire Garrett. Then Fire Dave Campo, Fire Decamillis, Fire John Garrett, Fire Herring, Fire Houck, Fire Juraszek, Fire Pasqualoni, etc. Eliminate every single coach on the roster.

-Hire a coach, I don’t even care who. Jerry can stay GM, but let the new coach have 100% say on his staff. Let the new coach have 100% say on player discipline. Let the new coach have 100% say on the when, who and how to play the players Jerry gets and cuts.

-Draft big name school players with every pick that isn’t your #1 pick. I’m predicting #1-#7 overall and Jerry will want to get a big name and I’m OK with that. But every single other pick needs to be XXXX from Texas/OU/OhioSt/Alabama/etc. This team simply can not afford a talent prospect gamble. Disregard “upside” and aquire “meat”

-You may notice a trend that I am very Pro-Choice. I think he is pretty good, but he is a great leader. He needs to be the feature back.

And the winner for “you never saw that one coming” (seriously)

-Trade our draft picks for developed NFL players. My moneyball thoughts say draft picks are highly overrated right now. You want a solid offensive lineman, offer somebody a 5th round pick for him. Even superstars like Moss are going for pennies on the dollar.

I disagree with Jason’s statement that this team sucked from the get go. This will require a more tag, because it’s gonna be a doozy.

Let me start by saying the 2010 Cowboys are worse than I expected at the beginning of the season, but in the way I expected. This team is the most shallow team in the NFL.

The past 3 years of drafts have produced only Dez Bryant, Sean Lee, Tashard Choice, and David Buehler. The draft before last had 12 players drafted, and not 1 of them plays aside from the kicker. Due to inactives and injuries (or lack of starter injuries), we were unable to see 11 of those players. We have now seen them and they suck… (and for the record: Yes, Felix Jones is a bust)

How can the Cowboys get only 4 decent players in 3 drafts? The simple answer, they didn’t. The odds against this futility must be at least 25-1. They drafted players where they should have gone; they drafted the positions they needed.

I can hear it now “Rob, you’re full of shit again”, just hold on and let me explain. Young talent is 1/3 drafted, 1/3 luck, and 1/3 DEVELOPMENT. The most obvious example is that Choice buried behind a 1st round bust in Jones and an overpayed burnout because Jerry needs to prove himself right.

Compare this atmosphere to when Parcells was here. Parcells had the best players playing and the backups needed to be the best players; if you weren’t developing, you were replaced with somebody who might. Jacob Rogers and Stephen Peterman come to mind immediately… highly drafted players (2nd and 3rd rounders) that Parcells cut within 2 years. Alternately, he promoted an undersized nose tackle in Jay Ratliff over his prototypical nose ParcellsGuy/ParcellsSigned Jason Furguson… promoted Romo over ParcellsGuy/ParcellsSigned Bledsoe (ironically while Jerry Jones was publicly challenging Peter King’s report that Parcells would start Romo).

“Rob, you’re full of shit and you’ve written a book already,” hold on, hold on. The best players on this team are really good… unfortunately some of them aren’t playing, some of them were injured, and at least 1 of them is being buried behind worse players.

The early season losses to “inferior” teams, I attribute to line injuries exposing the shallow depth, bad bounces and… wait for it… POOR COACHING. The piecing together of ill fitting coaches has finally hit its critical point.

Dave Campo is a 4-3 guy coaching the secondary of a 3-4 defense causing a disconnect at a fundamental level. The linebacker-to-corner safety-to-linebacker holes are where the secondary is getting gashed. It also happens to be where wideout hot routes go. Hot routes are used to give a qb a quick throw during a blitz; this is the reason there is no quarterback pressure from the defense. Mike Martz is the 1st coach to create the blueprint to decimate this defense; the rest of the league now copies it (Houston missed the memo).

Jason Garrett knows nothing of an effective running game; Wade knows nothing of the offense. I really don’t need to explain this coaching disconnect.

90% These things could have been fixed in the preseason. 50% of these things could have been fixed during the season. They always had a shot at being good.

I’ll be glad when they blow this garbage up. It’ll be fun to watch them fail with the bitchball they insist on running out there, that is if we don’t get a local black out.

That said, the Cowboys being terrible feels like home. I fondly remember wasting my Sundays studying the nuances of physical power football… the bandwagon completely empty.

Right now you’re saying “Rob, you’re full of shit.” Oh but not true… lets look at the difference in my daily life when the Cowboys are good vs when the Cowboys are terribad.

When Good:

Guy I don’t want to talk to: “How bout that Romo… and he’s dating Jessica Simpson!! Why don’t they just run the plays that score touchdowns instead of running the ball?”

Richie: “I hate the Cowboys.”

Jason: “I’m getting so much hate for being a Cowboys fan”

When Bad:

Guy I don’t want to talk to:

Richie: “The ticket place I work at has 100 extra tickets, want to go to a game and we’ll have a great fucking time at the game?”

Jason: “We’re going to be in good position next year, we’re going to have a #6-#10 draft pick and we can get player x or player y. I really think we can build around player z who has really stepped up. I think Jerry might be shamed enough to get a football guy in here for a head coach. Should they trade player f for draft picks? etc etc”

I’m pumped for some real NFL football and as the resident Cowboys homer I feel obligated to post here.

AFC East

Bills 4-12. They suck, tough division, looking to head to Toronto ASAP.

Jets 7-9. Not buying it.

Miami 11-5. Buying it hardcore. Solid power team, well organized, well coached, good D, finally a QB prospect that knows the system.

New England 11-5. Comin’ back

AFC North

Bengals 8-8. Not that good even if T.Ocho doesn’t explode.

Browns 2-14. The only thing that will make me take the Browns to the Superbowl is a rancid taco.

Ravens 10-6. Yup

Steelers 9-7. Something doesn’t seem right, but they’ll still be pretty good.

AFC South

Indy. 13-3

Jaguars 6-10. The year they fall apart

Texans 9-7. They are good, but reality check: they aren’t that good

Titans 10-6. I have a soft spot in my heart for smash mouth football.

AFC West

Broncos 7-9. I’m glad I don’t have cable; sportscenter will be a 15 minute Tebow watch&commentary starting week 4.

Chiefs 8-8. Years of good drafts show up this year.

Raiders 7-9. Weak division, better than most give them credit for.

Chargers 9-7. 2nd shakiest division winner from last year.

NFC West

49ers 8-8… and they still win the division.

Cardnals 7-9. Still a solid team even minus Warner and replaced with a spare.

Rams 3-13. Pray Bradford doesn’t start until the line is sorted out… that is one glassy shoulder.

Seahawks 7-9. Better than most think.

NFC South

Bucs 5-11. little to no upside for this year

Panthers 7-9. meh.

Falcons 8-8. Not the year.

Saints 12-4. Hard pick eh?

NFC North

Packers 13-3. Solid top to bottom.

Vikings 10-6. O-Line aging, defense aging, Favre is 40, and Jared Allen cut off his mullet for his wife!

Bears 7-9. I can already hear Jay Cutler blaming his picks on everyone else.

Lions 6-10. Big step forward this year.

NFC East (Saved the best for last)

Redskins 6-10. Face it, they suck.

Philly 10-6. I think Kolb will do just fine.

Giants 11-5. Back to a dominating team. Eli will look much better without plantarfaciatus (I’m not even going to spell check that)

and finally, my Dallas Cowboys. This is a very talented team. Their defense will be well above average. Their offense will be just above average after figuring in the crappy o-line. The most concerning thing about this team is Jerry choking every bit of player competition out of it. Crayton is much better than Roy Williams, but Jerry says Roy stays and starts. Jerry says Barber, who has lost both his burst and his physicality, starts when Choice is obviously better. Jerry wants less 2 tight end sets, he gets it. Final prediction, a disappointing 9-7. The NFL blows up 2011, Wade retires, Jerry promotes Garrett to head puppet coach, Parcell’s core ages, Dallas spirals into mediocrity.

This wasn’t even offsides!!! They called a foul on Edu (the goal scorer)!!! I.E. The only American not being fouled! Look at the evidence above to tell who is fouling who.

This was a historic MALcall. This is not a miscall. This was an intentional screwing of the US team.

If the US team does not advance then fuck the world cup, I’m out. No advertising will get my money. Your ratings will not be improved because my television is tuned in.

Best of luck anyone not named Italy. Special hopes for Germany, England, Mexico and Brazil for my international buddies… I won’t be watching though if the US doesn’t make it out of the group.

Stephanie is here and Eric should show up later.
