13-year-old QB accepts USC offer, father says
Southern California coach Lane Kiffin is apparently trying to get the inside track on recruiting a 13-year-old quarterback from Delaware.
The father of David Sills says Lane talked to the seventh-grader by phone Thursday and that the coach told the boy he’d like to have him come to USC. The boy’s answer, according to his father, was: “Absolutely.”

The Delaware News Journal first reported the story.
The father, David Sills IV, told The Associated Press on Friday that he also spoke to Kiffin and was shocked to have his son receive the nonbinding offer. The elder Sills says he is comfortable with his son’s early commitment.
NCAA rules prohibit coaches and school officials from speaking publicly about unsigned prospects.
There is one obviously fact that stands out here. The kid is THIRTEEN YEARS OLD! I realize that today’s kids are supposedly more ‘mature’ (I’ll dispute that some other time), but honestly, how many 13 year olds have the same goals at the age of 17 or 18? Perhaps this young’un will, but there are a lot of things that could happen between now and the time he graduates from high school. What if he doesn’t grow enough? What if he turns out to be a scrawny little wimp?
For a school to even be that interested in such a young boy is, to say the least, kind of creepy. Is Dad being ‘comfortable’ one of those living vicariously type of things?

Lane Kiffin should really read up on the rules of recruiting. This is a major violation. He was slapped on the wrist several times last year for recruiting violations last year in Tennessee!

Then why does he still have a job? :blank:

Because USC was desperate to fill the job when Pete Carroll left. They had about a month to fill the job and finish getting the recruiting done.
He was also the offensive coordinator when USC won a National Championship, so he had ties to USC
