I heard a moron caller on the radio last night asking what the difference between McLiar using steroids and HGH and the old timers scuffing the baseball, or throwing a spit ball, or rubbing pine tar too high on the bat. His point was that it was all cheating. I don’t know what rock he’s been under, but out of all the things he mentioned, only one is illegal….steroids. Yes, spitballs, scuffing, etc. all fall under the cheating catagory. Is it acceptable? Not really. But it’s a hell of alot harder to prove, and you won’t go to jail if you are caught. I find it sad to think that breaking the law now falls under the “who cares?” banner just because it might involve someone’s hero. McLiar shouldn’t be allowed to be a coach in MLB. He shouldn’t be allowed to wear the Cardinal’s uniform. St. Louis is a club that I have admired for a while, but if they do allow him to stay on the payroll after his whiney-ass admission, then it’s time to retool my thinking. Hall of Fame? Napes, bro. Go peddle your nonsense elswhere.
I heard a caller this afternoon on Spencer Hughes’ show say pretty much the same thing. Cheating is cheating. Just because the pitcher is taking that crap, these players should have more integrity not to follow their stupidity just to ‘keep up’.

What’s the difference between McGuire using steroids and HGH and the old timers scuffing the baseball, or throwing a spit ball, or rubbing pine tar too high on the bat? My point is that it is all cheating. :-Þ
I heard a caller call in yesterday and pull the race card. He was saying the media is giving McGuire a hall pass, while if it was Barry Bonds, they would killing him in the media. Are you kidding me?
If Barry Bonds ever confirms what people already think, the media will not kill him because he is black. They will kill him because they don’t like him. He was a complete ass to them his entire career.
Players who played in the steroid era can not be allowed into the Hall Of Fame. You can’t allow them to hold records, you can’t build a new wing just for the cheaters. If these players are allowed into the Hall Of Fame then what are you telling the guys in the Hall Of Fame already? Hey it was nice that you could do it the right way with hard work and morals, but these guys cheated their way in. It tarnishes what the Hall Of Fame is supposed to stand for.
Mark McGuire cheated himself, the game, but more importantly the FANS! Ken Griffey Jr. is the greatest player of my generation. You know for a fact he NEVER did steroids because he missed almost 5 years of his career due to injuries. He is a prime example of a player that did it, and continues to do it the right way. He could have very easily started taking steroids to *recover faster* from injury.
:finger: McGuire, and the needle you rode in on. Don’t pretend your sorry now that you NEED something from baseball. Pete Rose still finds himself on the outside looking in while baseball and Bud Selig welcomes McGuire back in with open arms? What a joke.
