Can Wisconsin Get Some Big 10 Love???

October 10th, 2009 · 6 Comments

WisconsinBadgers

While I sit here and make the mistake of listening to  College Game Day *presented by the Home Depot* *shakes head* I can’t help but find myself wondering why the 5-0 Wisconsin Badgers can’t get any Big 10 love.  The Badgers get the pleasure of playing the media darlings of the Big 10 today. That’s right sports fans they get to play one of the most OVERRATED teams in college football today, the #9 ranked Ohio State.

There are two undefeated teams in the Big 10 right now and Ohio State is not one of the.

Wisconsin 5-0

Iowa 5-0

I also grow tried of hearing about how great Terrelle Pryor (Ohio State QB) is. What a game changer he is, what a joke. He may be a game changer against lesser teams, but he is a no show in big games against good teams.  See USC game as example.

Here are some stats on the *game changer* Terrelle Pryor

Opponents     Attempts / Completions / Yards / Touchdowns / Interceptions

Navy  (3-2)              21                      14                        174                           1                                    0

USC   (4-1)                25                      11                          175                         0                                    1

Toledo (3-2)            28                      17                         262                         3                                    2

Illinois   (1-3)           8                         3                          82                            1                                    0

Indiana (3-2)           27                     16                        159                           3                                    0

These stats do not indicate a *game changer* they indicate someone that is average, playing for a media darling.

If we are comparing schedules, Ohio State has played more teams this year with winning records. Having said that they have squeaked out wins this year against lesser teams they should have blown out. (See Navy game as example).  If we are looking at ranked teams on each schedule. Ohio State has 3 (one of which they have lost) where as Wisconsin only faces 2 ranked teams this season.  Should Wisconsin win today surely the Big 10 and the nation have to show them some love.

    Thank you sir:)
I have noticed for years that the “sports media” never gives the Badgers due respect, even when they win the
Rose Bowl. Today will be no different Everything OSU does will be wonderful – anything UW does will be a “lucky break” or a fluke. Most of those announcers are jerks who can’t even pronounce Wisconsin right.

‘Hope i am wrong GO BADGERS !!!!!

The Badgers put together solid seasons with a lot less talent most of the bigger name schools. Meaning Wisconsin doesn’t get a lot (if any) big name High School recruits from the big board. From what I have seen Wisconsin develops talent, where as most big name schools hope the big name recruits they get can play at the college level.

Good point. I’ve never understood why good HS players want to go to OSU or Penn State and play
fifth string when they could start at a school like UW or Iowa. I think I heard a few weeks ago that
this year the Badger squad is around 80% frosh and sophs. They’ll grew up :)

I think one problem Wisconsin faces when trying to recruit big names from the big board is the lack of national exposure they get. Kids want to go play for big name programs that get lots of TV time and highlights on ESPN. The figure it will help them down the road when trying to enter the NFL. Most of them don’t realize that it doesn’t matter what school you play for, if your good the scouts will find you.

The Badgers looked like the kid in the fifth grade play, who, when his time came to deliver his one big line, froze with stage fright. I hope they rebound and go undefeated the rest of the way, but opportunities like Saturday don’t come around very often.

Yeah they didn’t really help me make my case. Course Terrelle Pryor had a monster game.. NOT! So at least one of my points was proven. Turnovers killed the Badgers. Both teams now 5-1 but you only hear about Ohio State and Iowa. Course the only reason your hearing anything about Iowa is because they *upset* Penn State. Iowa took full advantage of their *National Spotlight Game*. Wisconsin missed a chance yesterday.

They do however get another chance in a next week when they play Iowa.
