So I have been struggling with this question for the last few weeks. I have been trying to figure out who is a bigger idiot in the Michael Crabtree soap opera. Here are your choices for the biggest idiot here.
Michael Crabtree – Texas Tech (Cabbage Patch Kid) wide receiver who was drafted 10th over all by the San Francisco 49′ers in Aprils draft. He has yet to sign and in a *pout in the corner* temper tantrum move has threatened to sit out the entire NFL season, and re-enter the NFL draft next year. Crabtree wants a $40 Million dollar 5 year deal. How Crabtree can pass up $16 Million dollars guaranteed is beyond me. Whoever is telling Crabtree that he should sit out the entire year and re-enter the draft should probably be included in the question of who is the bigger idiot here. Also factor in the possibility of an NFL lockout after next season that $16 Million guaranteed sure does look nice, doesn’t it? Re-entering the draft next season will make Crabtree look even worse to teams then he already does.
San Francisco 49′ers – NFL Franchise dumb enough to draft Michael Crabtree, especially with all the drama and character issues that surround the Texas Tech receiver. I understand the fact that they are trying to rebuild in San Francisco but why take someone who other teams including the Cleveland Browns (who desperately need another wide receiver) passed on due to character issues during their interview prior to the draft.
Mel Kiper Jr. - He actually think that if Crabtree decides to re-enter the NFL draft next year he will be drafted in the top 10. He has actually projected Crabtree to be drafted higher then he was this season. There is a ton of talent entering the draft next season that includes Colt McCoy (Texas QB) Tim Tebow (FL QB) Sam Bradford (OU QB) and Jermaine Gresham (OU Tight End). With the constant praise and fuss made over Crabtree by Kiper, Crabtree is doomed to be a bust in the NFL. Mel Kiper Jr. has made a career at being as vague as possible when building his draft board. He has also made a career of telling NFL teams they should have never passed on certain players, then the player turns out to be a major bust.
Its a toss up between Crabtree and Kiper to me. On one had you have a diva wide receiver who has yet to play a down in the NFL wanting big money. On the other hand you have an established member of the media who year after year continues to prove he is an idiot. Decisions, decisions!

Kiper’s board is usually correct weather the player is a bust or not. Can’t call him a talent evaluator as much as a good guesser at who teams will take based on need. An 8 year old with a crayon can do it but they don’t interview well.
Crabtree is the biggest idiot. Take the money, play the games. I think he just doesn’t want to play for the 49′ers and i don’t really blame him. No one has wanted to play with them since TO ran Jerry out of town to Oakland.
Vote = Crabtree

TO ran Jerry out of town??? Really?? I think Jerry Rice would say otherwise! LOL
Crabtree should be happy someone in the NFL wanted him. Yeah he had a good college career, but if he was smart he would sign and play. Put up the numbers he claims he can then the big money contracts come. Or he plays out his contract and goes elsewhere, either way IF he puts up the numbers he claims he can then he is going to get paid.

I understand Crabtree’s position. He thinks he should be making more money. This is a common mistake by draft picks in every sport, but only the NBA has a hard rookie cap and salary slotting. His mistake is not settling for less and getting to free agency with only 30 million. Now his whole career might suffer for not reevaluating his current situation.
That leaves Kiper Jr as the biggest idiot… you think he would have remembered his year-away-from-the-game-WR-prospect-bust he rated as #1 overall, the now unemployed Mike Williams to Detroit. Crabtree is blackballed from the top of the draft (a strong draft at that). GM Damage is on the record saying he would only invest a mid-to-late 2nd round gamble on him.

Crabtree is the biggest idiot here. He is pissing away the opportunity to make millions, much of it guarenteed. The Potential WR class in next years draft may not be all that bad. Dez Bryant, and Julio Jones to name a couple. One other point I think merits mentioning. I don’t think Goodell is going to be too happy about Crabtree making a mockery of the NFL draft like this. This mayt very well be the tipping point in owners asking for a rookie cap in the next CBA, which certainly will not endear Crabtree to the players. I will never begrudge an athlete for making what they make. But to piss away some of the prime years of your playing career, in a sport where playing careers are very short to begin with is beyoind stupid…it is borderline insane.

My vote goes to Crabtree. He’s the one losing money, not Mumblin’ Mel. He won’t go as high in the draft as he thinks for several reasons, not the least being an owner not wanting to deal with an agent who would advise a client to sit out a year. I’m sure he has an insurance policy that will pay him a couple of million should he somehow get hurt and not be able to ever play football, but how in the hell can you turn down that much guaranteed money when you haven’t played a friggin’ down in the NFL? Perhaps Mel is to blame for that. After all, he was the one touting Crabtree as a possible #1 in the draft pick. The Cabbage Patch Kid started to believe in the lunacy. Like I said, it’s not costing Mel anything to be wrong, but it’s sure costing Crabapple!!

I really think the NFL should take a page from the NBA and put a rookie salary cap in place. Veteran players who have proven themselves (in most cases) never see the kid of money a rookie gets these days. When you factor in not only the salary, but the endorsement deals these players are getting its crazy.
