Proximity

June 8th, 2009 · 2 Comments

The new Cowboys Stadium (named ‘Cowboys Stadium’ for lack of a sponsor) was opened.  Specifically with a George Strait concert.  A metaphorically perfect opening for me, as I am nowhere near interested. Interest is the tip of the iceberg with regards proximity.

Texas Stadium was technically in Irving.  It was a family member just on the other side of town.  Close enough to make an occasional Sunday vist.  The time driving to it was a relatively traffic free 15 miles from my home.  Cowboys Stadium now resides in Arlington.  Traffic free, it takes an hour to get to.  Traffic free is an illusion though as there is only 1 major freeway to get to and from the stadium.  2 hours to get into the parking lot and 3 hours to get home is simply too far for me.

Speaking of too far for me, lets talk prices.  Nose bleeds cost around 1400 per season.  That is $175 per game per seat.  This excludes the personal seat licenses and parking pass.  Parking passes cost $40 per game, preseason required purchased.  In total, the cheapest you can get 2 of the WORST seats in the house for 390$ per game.  If you take into account the personal seat licenses, the 1 year per game total is $800 for 2 people with 1 parking pass.  Crap, I forgot to add tax… multiply all those already astronomical prices by 1.0825.

So now we have our overpriced, out of the way, middle of nowhere, no history, monstrosity of a new stadium that HAS TO SELLOUT ALL 80,000 shitty seats or else Dallas will be blacked out and I will no longer be able to watch the Cowboys on TV.

I have never felt farther from my team.  They could not have moved farther away from me and still be called The Dallas Cowboys.  Now I can only move farther from them.

Is it just me, or was Jerry Jones the worst thing to ever happen to my ‘Boys? I seriously miss the old days when football was a game.

Well, I guess we’ll see how many rich folks want to go see Diablo’s ‘Girls play. Or how many plain ‘ol fools live in the Metroplex. Remember, a fool and his money soon parts. Just be glad you’re out of the black hole created by the lack of a sellout, and can still watch the games!
