Mike Leach and Texas Tech come to terms on five year contract
Only a day after it appeared that football coach Mike Leach would be fired from his job at Texas Tech, the parties were able to reconcile their differences.
Leach agreed to the new five-year, $12.7 million deal after meeting with the Chancellor of the university. It’s clear that the direct communication between Leach and the ultimate decision maker did the trick.
Bruce Feldman of ESPN The Magazine reported that the school made the determination it didn’t want to lose the coach. Leach, according to Feldman seems to have gotten his way with the contract provisions that had caused the impasse.
In the end, Feldman thinks that Leach wanted to be treated with more respect and the school was willing to accommodate him to keep him. Details on the specific contract language weren’t available.
Ok, you’ll excuse me while I pull out the barf bag. Just what the hell does this guy do to warrant more than TWO freakin’ MILLION dollars a year??? Has he found a cure for cancer? Did he discover a way to feed starving children in Africa? Perhaps he developed a vaccine to prevent HIV/AIDS? Nope! He hasn’t done any of those things. He’s a flippin’ football coach. Ok, it is a college team, but for the love of pete…..BIG DAMN DEAL!

Cabbage Patch Kids were a million dollar business from the moment the first truckload of them showed up at the farmers market known as Toys-R-Us, so why should it change now? Sometimes, even the worst idea can’t be stifled. Lubbock hasn’t received as much attention since the day the music died!!

$2 Million is a drop in the bucket compared to what some college coaches are getting paid.
Bob Stoops from Oklahoma walked away with a cool $6.1 Million this year. $3 Million from his salary, and $3 Million from his *10 year* clause in his contract. Mack Brown, Texas, Stoops, Pete Carrol, Urban Myers, and a few other high profile coaches are making over $3 Million a year.

Those were butt ugly dolls, and I never understood the obsession. Pfft!
Now, as for the music….well, it actually still lives. :) Yep, I’m old. Music is at least remembered. Who’s gonna remember this over priced bozo in 60 years?

CEO’s get multimillion dollar bonuses for laying off thousands of hard working Americans and moving their production to Bangladesh or somesuch.
Why the hate for someone who MAKES money for a college (a lot of it too) ?

Not hate… I just find it rather ridiculous to pay someone who doesn’t produce diddly….kind of like many of those CEOs. However, at least the CEOs provide jobs. And the reason so many companies moved their operations overseas was government policies. In order to make money, a company has to make a profit. Profits provide MORE jobs.

First time in a long time but let me put in my 2 cents.
Why pay Leach-itch Patch more than 2 mil? Well, he puts the university on TV no matter how much bitch ball he plays. On TV he can build a larger fan base and recruiting network. While on TV he’s also attracting high school kids to join a university. Not that they would let them in but the fact that big time programs can drive support in the youth community making it a goal to go the college of their dreams because their all-time favorite team is a part of the experience.
Think about it, a lot of people pick schools because of the atmosphere and not so much the educational value. Hence A&M still being a highly valued college. Not because of the education but because people are drawn to that life style of being gay. If he can create and drive a highly motivated and fun atmosphere by winning a few games, the school makes money from those students who chose to go there because of that. They weren’t getting those students a while back when they sucked at football. He’s putting value in the university by winning games. Pay him 3 mil a year, he brings in 20 min in revenue just from football and puts the school and students in a better position to draw in students from all over the country rather than the ones that couldn’t get into UT or A&M. Texas Tech is no longer the 3rd best school in Texas. It’s moved to 2nd surpassing A&M no matter how often Baylor graduates Dr.’s that are trying to cure something more important than a hangover. I do believe it was a graduate of Baylor University that created the “Hangover Pill”. Win a football game and make millions, cure a hangover and no one knows your name.
Who are we to decide what a person values? I don’t care as long as they are going to college and not being a drain on America. One day these retards will run us and I’m glad they are going to any college rather than doing nothing. So be it if a Garbage Pail Kid gets them to go.
Your’s truly,
An American Citizen and damn proud!
