Its no secret that Sean Avery likes to stir up trouble, and last night was no exception. Seems despite the Stars organization asking Avery not to talk to the media. Avery thought it would be a good idea to make off color comments about his ex-girlfriend, and her new boyfriend which happened to play for Calgary. Also keep in mind that Avery called the reports over to him, asking them *is that camera on?* None of the media asked for an interview, this was all Avery’s doing.

Now I will say this much, the comments made were tacky and tasteless, but I don’t know that they deserved a *indefinite suspension*. I would be left to assume that because Avery has a long list of previous offenses is what ultimately led to the suspension. Avery released a statement apologizing to the fans, his teammates, and anyone else he offended with his comments. More then likely this is just an attempt to make the powers that be happy, being the NHL commissioner Gary Bettman, and the Stars organization.

I find myself wondering if the Stars, Brett Hull, and Tom Hicks are going through Avery’s *guaranteed money* contract with a fine tooth comb looking for a way to part ways.

National Hockey League Senior Executive Vice President and Director of Hockey Operations Colin Campbell today issued the following advisory on the interpretation of Rule 75 – Unsportsmanlike Conduct: “An unsportsmanlike conduct minor penalty (Rule 75) will be interpreted and applied, effective immediately, to a situation when an offensive player positions himself facing the opposition goaltender and engages in actions such as waving his arms or stick in front of the goaltender’s face, for the purpose of improperly interfering with and/or distracting the goaltender as opposed to positioning himself to try to make a play.”
