Can we all just say it. Why is it so hard? This is what it would look like if it were based on today’s AP poll. There is still plenty of time for Wisconsin to get in (before their annual mid-season wilt, time for Texas to “play” their way out of this, and time for Bama fans to boo hoo about the refs, media, Gatorade flavor, Auburn, 3 or 4 losses, the way Bear would have done it blah, blah, blah… Let’s just do what they do in D II and III. If March has taught us one thing it’s that tournaments are not successful money makers in college sports. God bless you, college presidents.

This will never work and here’s why:
1. It makes way too much sense…
2. There aren’t enough suitcases to fit all of the money in that a playoff would generate…
3. Auburn would not be able to bitch about being left out of the championship game…
4. It would take away all the mythical Nat’l Championships that Alabama could claim. No more 1923 Rexall Drugs Nat’l Champs, 1946 Planter’s Peanut Nat’l Champs, etc. (you know, they have 6 but claim 167)…
5. USC would have to play more than one hard game a year, and we can’t allow that…
6. Texas might have to play a non-conference game against an out-of-state team and everyone outside of Texas knows the real words to the little railroad song they sing; and…
7. It would give Oklahoma 5 or 6 more opportunities to lose a post-season game by a ridiculous margin each year.

I just want to see the good teams actually play each other. I’d prefer a 16 team playoff myself.

Already with the bitching. Every year some little sister complains about not getting in the March brackets. 16 teams would go on too long. An 8 team playoff would last a month. The same month that goes from the last game of the season to Jan bowls. Makes too much sense.

I really could care less about the who gets the title. I just want to see good teams play each other. Good teams simply won’t schedule competitive out of conference teams on a regular basis.
For example: until the Texas/Michigan Rose Bowl a few years ago, these teams had never played each other… and that’s a damn shame.
If I were bitching about it instead of requesting more “must see” games, I would have left the “e” off “shame” in that last sentence.

Who said I’m a horns fan? I openly admit I’m not one. My father is a horns fan, and therefore I have the slightest rooting interest in them.
I’m a football fan… and watching to see if generic-top-level-contender beats the spread vs generic-scrub-team, week after week, year after year, is extremely boring. It’s like watching a 50$ boxing ppv where a heavyweight champion beats up a tomato can. I know there are upsets (and they are great when they do happen), but there are maybe 5 great on-paper nonconference games, league wide, in any given season.
I’ll go ahead and appropriately redirect your jab at the Texas faithful though:
