Its a sad day in the Damage household.

Paul Newman was one of the greatest human beings on the planet. He gave selflessly of himself more than anyone famous person in history. Buying his salad dressing was pretty much directly donating your money to charity (minus the tax writeoff, plus a great organic dressing). He’d go to children’s hospitals in clown costumes to cheer up sick kids, and never tell anyone who he was.

I’m going to have to watch ‘Slapshot’ tonight.

He was a great person. Great actor, as well as a damn good driver. I met him in San Antonio at the IMSA race they held there back in the mid 80’s, and he was very approachable and down to earth. He knew how important the fans were to the success of the Camel GT series, and would take plenty of time to reward the fans who waited until he was thru with his car. And, speaking of “Slapshot”, I’ll never forget how well he delivered his line to the owner about her son!! Think I’ll go get my banjo now and play “I don’t care if it rains or freezes, long as I got my plastic Jesus, sittin’ on the dashboard of my car.” So long , Luke, we’re gonna miss ya!!
