Greetings, Ick readers. Another week of college football is behind us so (of course) it’s now to nitpick the greatest game on Earth. Today’s topic that makes me want to fight: the polls.
*Quick disclaimer. I am a Sooner fan but long before that as a wee one in Atlanta, I was a Dawg fan. Like every other UGA fan, I was pumped to see them on top of the pile in August. I will root for Georgia on a boat. I will root for them with a goat… You get the rest. But let’s be honest here. Georgia has done nothing but win. 4-0. Where is the pre-season numero uno now? Number 3 (behind USC and Boomer Sooner)
- After a week one 45 point showing against Georgia Southern, USC jumps them after the Trojans travel to Virginia and thump them. (Virginia now 1-2 after a 35 point loss to UConn)
- After a week 3 SEC road game win against Spurrier and the Gamecocks, voters decided that Oklahoma’s victory over Washington (0-3 outscored 127-51 in the three) meant more? and voted them above Georgia.
- This week? Well, obviously Oklahoma and USC both looked great in bye weeks as Georgia laid down in the 4th quarter and didn’t punch it in from the 1 and chose to run the time out on the way to a 27-10 win on the road at Arizona St. Still number 3.
USC may be the best college football team I’ve seen in years. However, this team is 2-0 after 4 weeks and have that “quality” win against another one of your creations, Ohio St. We’re all beginning to see just how average they are. Oklahoma is rolling and Sam Bradford looks like the best QB in the country. Georgia may well have a couple of losses after a schedule that finished up with such cupcakes as: Bama, Tenn, Vandy, LSU, Florida, Kentucky, Auburn, and Georgia Tech (in that order). If these polls are a prediction of how the season is going to end… fine. I have no argument here. Beat South Carolina by more than a touchdown. But it’s not.
Look out, Georgia. You better put a stomping on Alabama on ESPN Saturday night. Missouri has a bye week. The voters really must think bye is a monster opponent. They could jump to the top spot.
The Corner wishes to thank theSportsbean and TheFullBug for the loan of guest writer, Bug. Without his insight and college football understanding, Ickscorner would be just another great sports site.

wow what a stupid post. USC is the best team in the country it just took them a couple of weeks to get the poll right.

Seriously, the Longhorns need to get a hold of that bye week so we can get some respect. Bet you money we jump more spots during the bye week than we will rolling the new Baylor of the Big 12, A&M.

Look at USC’s schedule. Ohio St. Won’t even be ranked at the end of the year. That will make a grand total of zero ranked teams for the year.
Michigan was ranked in the top 5 in last years top 25 poll.

USC the best team in the country? Maybe, but we’ll have to wait until a bowl game to find out. Playing in that horrendous Pacifist 10 Conferrence, (and getting beaten by the likes of Stanford and Oregon St. with alarming regularity) doesn’t help.
Oh, by the way, is the Bush clan still living in the free house or are they renting it out to the Kardashian’s for TV filming now?

a lot of people don’t realize (down of not) just how hard it is to go to S Carolina and win when you are a rival. The Ball Coach pulled out all the stops to beat the hated Georgia Bulldogs. Y’all look like Texans from the looks of things. I’ve seem them play. Georgia is GOOD!
I agree. Ranked no. 1 and unbeaten? Why did they drop? Twice?!

@ SC Jim,
While USC looks good right now, calling the post stupid is not real fair. Because the bean did not verbally go down on your Trojans doesn’t mean you should trash the post. If I’m not mistaken he did give you guys credit on beating a ranked, but over hyped Ohio State, and I do believe he did call your Trojans the best team he has seen in years..
Try reading the entire post before you start running your mouth!
@ Dragon
The Bush clan is renting out the the house to the Kardashian’s for TV filming.. Think Matt wishes he could go back and take ballroom dancing for another year so he can remember what its like to win??? :rotflmao:
@ Rick
Ick – Dallas , Bean – Tenn, though I’m not real sure what our geographic location has to do with much of anything when discussing college football, unlike other pages, Dragon, Steve, Lajitas, The Bean, and most of the other readers do follow more then just their own personal favorites.
Having said that.. after discussing with The Bean earlier, UGA should be ranked #! at this current time. USC should be ranked two, above OU because they have actually played a ranked team. Sadly, I fear when the polls, and voters look at teams, they rely heavily on strength of schedule, which less face it, the Big 12 sucks the big one in that department.
UGA has the toughest schedule of the 3 teams in this discussion. You bring up an great point about the rival games, and location of the rival games. Its a shame that the main stadiums that get brought up are the Horse Shoe, USC, and The Big House ect.
@Frank
Great video to throw into this debate!!!

What a load! I’m so sick of the crying from the SEC. They had 5 of the top 10 teams last week. What do you want? Your own poll? Give it a rest.

Wow bean, looks like Pac 10 Bomb missed the part in your post that says your a Sooner fan… :rotflmao:

Where’s Penn St in the argument?

I agree completly. I think USC are brilliant but they have only won two games and “number one” is now 4-0 and ranked 3. Over here that would cause a stir.

Wow!! Less than a full month of games and folks are losing their minds!! That’s okay…they probably won’t miss them. The biggest question I can think of is how did Georgia get voted number one in the presason poll? Oh, I forgot. They demolished that powerhouse team from the 50th state in the Sugar Bowl. Wow!! That being said, if they go undefeated this year, I don’t care how much USC runs up the scores, the ‘dawgs will be number one at the end. In the meantime, the pollsters are just voting for the two best teams money can buy (and no salary cap, thank you!). Let the season roll on a bit, then start the debate.

I agree with Lajitas. I think he was saying that this was total BS that Georgia was leaped in the polls there was alot of words and I kind of trailed off.

No he was saying that Georgia should have never been ranked #1 to start the season to begin with.. Gotta read man!!! :rotflmao:
