Carlos Zambrano becomes the first Cubs pitcher to throw a no hitter in 36 years. An amazing feat in itself, but add in the fact only a month ago the Cubs were worried their star starting pitcher’s shoulder would become an issue so close to the end of the season. Zambrano has been having issues with tendinitis in his rotator cup. This marks only the 2nd no hitter of the season, 1st being Jon Lester back in May.
Zambrano threw 110 pitches, Lou Piniella later said he was going to limit Zambrano’s pitch count to 100. Good thing for Zambrano Piniella was hesitant to start warming up anyone in the bullpen in the 9th inning.
