Strahan Staying Retired!!!

August 26th, 2008 · 4 Comments

Michael Strahan has decided not to hold his former team hostage, and stay retired. I had lunch with a buddy of mine who is a die hard Giants fan, and we got to talking about Strahan and will he stay retired, or will he come back. My buddy said if the money is right he will come back and play, but he could not argue the next point I brought up. Strahan was drafted by the Giants, and played his entire career in New York, the magic figure to bring Strahan out of retirement was around $8 million dollars. With the current situation the Giants find themselves in, he pretty much had the power to hold the team hostage, and ask his own price. I know its a business, but I still think that it would have been a pretty sad move on his part to choose that path. The only thing my buddy could say is, this is true, but his divorce was pretty expensive, “Brotha Mike needs all the cash he can get right now”! This is true I replied, and added you would think with all the money he has made over the years, he could have atleast gotten that gap in his teeth fixed, especially since he just signed a $2 million dollar deal to join the Fox pregame show.

He must floss that gap with a tree branch!!!

All joking aside I’m glad to see Strahan not only go out on top, but not take advantage of a bad situation at the Giants expense. Good for you Mike!

His divorce is costing a bunch, but he just got a judge to reduce his child support payments some, so it’s not as bad. Seems that the judge didn’t think he needed to pay for the twin’s nanny’s vacation (with her family) to Jamaica every year, or that the ex needed quite as much to cloth them….they don’t need a new outfit everytime they see daddy. So his 2 million from Fox should get him by. Maybe we can understand him talk, even. He will struggle if he has to talk about the San Francisco 49ers, though. It’ll be like Leon Spinks trying to cheat on his test in school!! But, maybe he can pay back Uncle Art someday. I doubt he will, but he should.

Strahan’s child support to be recalculated
    By DAVID PORTER

    Associated Press Writer

NEWARK, N.J. — Retired New York Giants defensive end Michael Strahan won the latest round in his lengthy divorce case on Tuesday when a state appeals court reversed a lower court’s awarding of about $18,000 per month in child support to his twin 3-year-old daughters.

The three-judge panel found a lower court didn’t adequately review the claims by Strahan’s ex-wife, Jean, about the girls’ needs.

For instance, among the listed expenses were a 10-day vacation to Jamaica for the girls’ nanny and her family, allegedly as a gift from the children, and diamond jewelry given to their grandmother.

Strahan’s ex-wife also claimed the toddlers needed $27,000 per year for clothing because she dressed them in a new outfit each time they saw their father.

“Some of the expenses claimed by defendant clearly should have been deleted by the court,” the appeals court concluded.

Strahan was to have paid $8,948 on the first and 15th of each month. Under Tuesday’s ruling, the matter will be reconsidered by the lower court.

“Mr. Strahan is gratified with the result and feels his legal position has been vindicated,” Strahan’s lawyer, Angelo Genova, said Tuesday. “He hopes the matter can be resolved amicably going forward in the interests of his children.”

The appeals court also ruled Strahan does not have to pay about $14,000 of his ex-wife’s legal and accounting fees, and that he is not required to purchase $7.5 million in disability insurance since he retired from professional football earlier this year.

Strahan told FoxSports.com on Tuesday that he is staying retired instead of returning to the Giants after the season-ending injury to Osi Umenyiora.

The Strahans married in 1999, but went through a bitter public divorce in 2005 and 2006 that included allegations by Jean Strahan that her husband physically abused her.

In 2007, a judge ordered Michael Strahan to pay his ex-wife $15.3 million, but he appealed the ruling and later the couple settled for a lower sum.

A phone message left for Ellen C. Marshall, an attorney representing Strahan’s ex-wife, was not returned Tuesday.
