So I have been trying to come up with some sort of prize for the winner of the NFL picks for this up coming season. Sure bragging rights are great, but who doesn’t want to be rewarded for their hard work over the season with some free swag? So I have come up with the following. The person who wins the NFL picks this year will receive a signed mini helmet from Tri Star Sports. Tri Star offers a mystery grab bag thing sold at most local card shops that has one mini helmet signed included in the package. Guaranteed to be signed, but by who? Now there is the mystery. I bought one of these bags last seasons just for grins and ended up with a Bart Starr signed mini helment, but not just any helmet, a Alabama signed mini helmet.(which I was offered $500 for right on the spot by the owner of the shop) I’ll add the picture later.
So if you have a blog or website, please get the word out.. Cause this is going to be alot of fun.
GOOD LUCK EVERYONE!!!
Rules:
To win of the TriStar Sports autographed mini helmet from their Hidden Treasure series, the percentages from the top 12 weeks from each participant will be considered. For example, if a participant participates in all 17 weeks of the regular season, then the 5 worst weeks, based on percentage, will be dropped. On the other hand, if a participant only participates in 10 weeks of the regular season, then all 10 weeks plus 2 weeks with no wins based on a 15 game week. This means that all participants will be considered for the prize, but it will heavily favor those who participate in at least the minimum number of weeks.
Also, for your picks to be valid for the games that week, the deadline is 12:00pm CST so that they are in before kickoff that Sunday. The only exception to this is those weeks were one or more games occur before Sunday. In these cases, those games that occur before Sunday will have the deadline of the kick-off for that given game. All other games have the normal deadline for the picks to be submitted. For example with the first week of 2008, the Washington Redskins/New York Giants game occurs the Thursday before, 9/4. The picks for this game must be submitted before kick-off. For the remaining 15 games, including the 2 Monday night games, the picks are not required to be in until 12:00pm CST on Sunday 9/7. This means a participant may choose not to make a pick for the Washington Redskins/New York Giants game but can participate in the rest of the week’s games. In this situation, though, the Washington Redskins/New York Giants game will be recorded as an incorrect pick consideration for the mini helmet.
In the event of a tie for first place, an additional week will be taken into consideration for the participants involved, making the total weeks factored in 13. This will continue until the tie is broken or until all 17 weeks are factored in. If all 17 weeks are factored in and a tie continues to persist, then highest week percentage from each participant involved will be used as a tie breaker, and this will progress down through as many weeks as is required.
The TriStar Sports Hidden Treasure series is a series of sports memorabilia and collectibles which are sold in boxes, and you do not know the specifics beyond the general description of the item (mini helmet, baseball, etc.) until it is opened. In the case of the mini helmets, it is autographed by a current or former player. They are typically separated into 3 categories: Award Winners, Fan Favorites, and Hall of Famers. Examples of previous signed helmets include those of Joe Montana, Barry Sanders, Dick Butkus, Jerry Rice, Dan Fouts, Bart Starr, and Roger Staubach. There is no guarantee that you will receive one of these names, but there is the potential for receiving 1 of a number of great players.
Good luck!

Its real easy you sooner fan!!
We are going to take the top 12 weeks of the picks and apply them for your pick percentage.
This allows people to toss out 4 bad weeks, and will also allow people to who may miss weeks to still be eligible…
Its not that hard!

Sounds very liberal to me Jason.
How about this:
make your picks, the one who has the most correct picks wins….?
I’m in either way bro…just a thought.

That’s what I originally wanted to do, but then Tech Support said
If we go by a pick percentage, and only use 12 weeks, it will allow people to who are not here for the first week, or find out late about the picks to still be eligible for the prize

Boooooooo! If you have a bad week, you should suffer the pain. But I’ll play the game. It’s a long season, and my lawyer will have it figured out by the end!

I heard there have been some complaints about the rules, specifically the use of only 12 weeks in the final ranking. I know it may be a little late, but I thought I would address this issue.
First, let me say that the unanimously preferred way for this to work is to consider all 17 weeks of the regular season. Depending on this year works, that could very well be a change for next year.
The reason we decided to only use the top 12 weeks in the rankings is because based on last year, there was only one person who participated in every single week of the preseason. We want to make sure a good portion of those participating in the picks would be in consideration for the top spot instead of just 3 or 4. We do acknowledge that if we had decided to use all 17 weeks it would be motivation for everybody to participate in more, but we also want to be able to allow those who may come in a week or 2 late.
After seeing the level of participation in the first week of the picks, we have realized we could have considered more than 12 weeks in the rankings, but that is the luxury of 20/20 hindsight. We could not have predicted the number of individuals wanting to participate, and we are extremely pleased with the turnout. Since we had already decided on the rules, we do not want to go back and change them setting a precedent that the rules can be changed throughout the season. Instead, we plan to take what we learned from this and plan to use it to make next year even better.
Once again, we appreciate everybody who participates in the picks and encourage you to be involved every week of the season.
