The return of MotoGP to the United States brought a Champ Car like flair with it this past weekend. This turned out to be a battle of wild passes in MotoGP’s version of “If ya ain’t rubbin, ya aint racin.”
The 2 guys battling for for the points lead went at it like Danica going after Milka. GOOD STUFF!!
In bike racing, there is no “rubbin”, well not purpose anyway, there’s just impossible passes. The pass Val Rossi put on Casey Stoner was an almost impossible feat. Most other riders probably would have been in the back of an ambulance if they attempted this…..
He made the pass stick.
Look familiar??
This pass in the same corner at Laguna Seca is courtesy of Alex Zanardi during his Champ Car days. I do believe he won that race.
After it was all said and done, Stoner could keep up. He ended up in the sand trap, fell down, remounted and still finished second.
Here’s the results:
| Pos. | Rider | Team | Bike |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | Valentino Rossi | Fiat Yamaha Team | Yamaha |
| 2 | Casey Stoner | Ducati Marlboro Team | Ducati |
| 3 | Chris Vermeulen | Rizla Suzuki MotoGP | Suzuki |

I don’t think anybody is going to catch Val this season.

The first rule of racing – pass them where they ain’t.
