Well the Rangers are on the baseball radar, and are actually fun to watch these days. At trade deadline last season the Rangers announced yet again they were going to build a young team. They would not go out and sign high price free agents, they were more interested in building a team from their farm system. A farm system that has been stocked with players from trades for Mark Teixeria, Eric Gagne, ect. For the most part they have pretty much stuck to the game plan. We now find the Rangers 4 games over 500, and actually are getting some attention from the local media. Basically there is sports to watch here in Dallas during the summer, instead of counting down the days until football season starts.
With the trade dead line rapidly approaching, and players such as Josh Hamilton, Milton Bradley aka Boardgame, and Kinsler playing as well have they have over the past few months.. My fear is John Daniels is going to get trade happy and start trading his players that are actually making this team relevant away for prospects and farm players. It’s a valid concern because we watch him do it every season. The classic Daniels speech after all the trades have been made starts like this.
*We feel the team is not going in the direction we would like to see it going in, we made some trades we feel will help our farm team, and allow us to build for the future*
Now if you hear this bulls**t long enough, you start to wonder when the future becomes the present. We all know Tom Hicks is a cheap bastard that will not crack open the wallet to bring in free agents, so if your a rangers fan, all you can do is hope and pray that all the prospects and farm players will start to prove themselves. This is a good young team, which is what Daniels wanted.. *sends Daniels and email*
Dear Mr. Daniels,
You have your young team you wanted, and a stocked farm system. You have a good line up and some players that really seem to play well together. Do not trade any of your players that are actually putting the Rangers back on the radar. Kinsler is on a 22 game hit streak, working on setting a new franchise record. Bradley is having an outstanding season given what he has had to over come in the last year. Josh Hamilton, well we won’t go into that, please pick up a copy of S.I. for reasons not to trade Hamilton. If you do find it necessary to trade players, please bring us some pitching. If you could do that it would be great, considering last nights win was put together by our bullpen!
Signed,
A fan that actually would like to see you make a good decision around trade time for once!

I don’t think we have to worry so much about trades this year. With the team playing above .500 baseball, and as full of young talent as it is, I think JD will probably be pretty inactive. I definitely don’t think we’re going to have to worry about a Hamilton, Kinsler, or Young trade. I also highly doubt they would trade Boardgame (a.k.a. Milton Bradley). I guess we could see trades involving Boggs, Vazquez, Davis, or Murphy if JD can get something good for them. I think it’s more likely though that we will see a trade involving “The Cat”.
I think there’s a different attitude this year, and I think a lot of that comes from Nolan Ryan. It seems like they have a lot more fight in them. At this rate, we might see playoffs in Arlington this year….

Well at least they are playing better than they have for a while, the Angels thought they would walk through Texas and they will be lucky to split 4.
We need some Texas competition in the AL West.
