NHRA Top Fuel Funny Car drag racer and 2 time champion, Scott Kalitta, was killed today in a qualifying run at Old Bridge Township Raceway Park in Englishtown, NJ.
From courant.com:
According to the Star-Ledger of Newark, Kalitta’s car exploded, hit a sand trap, then vaulted over a protective catch fence.
According to the NHRA, Kalitta was extracted from his car by NHRA emergency services officials and transported to Old Bridge Township Hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.
Scott is survived by his wife Kathy and their 2 sons, Corey and Colin.
He was 46.
There is a video of the wreck on YouTube but out of respect for Scott and his family and friends, I will not post it.
Godspeed Scott…………
