To say it was a bit soggy in Wisconsin this weekend would be the understatement of the year. In my neck of the woods, we were blessed with over 9 inches of rain in 36 hours. Road America is about an hour and a half north west of me and was not spared the torrent of rain.

It’s motorcycle racing folks. Unlike other types of racing, the bikes run in the rain…..

Oddly enough, both legs of the AMA Superbikes ran on time, between downpours and flash floods. Race one on Saturday started out a close affair for points leader Ben Spies and his teammate Mat Mladin but that was to last only about 2 lap. Ben, who was looking for an AMA record 7th win in a row, decided he was done with Mladin and checked out, winning his 7th straight with ease.

Race 2 on Sunday saw the same characters only different results. Mladin, sick of being the brides maid, took off on Spies after about the 3rd or 4th lap and won without a problem. I didn’t see any of the support races but I do know that the winner of the 600 Supersport race, Steve Rapp, was DQ’d for illegally altering his rear tire which gave the win to Yamaha’s Ben Bostrom.

On the other side of the earth, MotoGP was tearing it up in Catalunya, Spain. The front end saw Honda’s Dani Pedrosa check out at the drop of the green win the race easily. The best battle was between Ducati’s Casey Stoner and Yamaha’s Valentino Rossi. Stoner was battling setup problem the whole race and still hung with Rossi but was unable to make any of his passes stick. At about the 3/4 mark in the race, Rossi started to pull away from Stoner until Casey started to figure out the Ducati and reeled Rossi in. Stoner fell about a lap short when the race ended before he could catch up. It was some great racing.

I’m on vacation so I hope to get a little face time with SpeedVision this weekend…..
